TechRepublic is an online trade publication and social community for IT professionals with advice on the best practices and tools for the day-to-day needs of IT decision-makers. It was founded in 1997 in Louisville by Tom Cottingham with Powershift Group, Integral Capital Partners, and Austin Ventures providing founding investments.
TechRepublic, initially founded as NarrowCast Concepts, debuted as a website in May 1999. The site was purchased by Gartner and then CNET Networks in 2000.
Steve Papermaster and Roger McNamee (with Integral Partners) served as co-chairmen of the Board of Directors. They worked with the management team to execute a rapid series of strategic moves that lead to the sale of the company for $80M.
