Steve Papermaster has 30 years of experience as a technology entrepreneur, public policy expert, global speaker, and noted author. He is the Chairman and CEO of Nano.

He takes on various roles of founding, growing, funding, acquiring, and investing in innovative technology companies around the world. Steve’s leadership titles include founder, chairman, CEO, and/or board member for several publicly traded and private companies, including Appconomy, Moxie Software, Powershift Group, ROME Corp. (acquired by TriplePoint Technologies), TechRepublic (acquired by CNET Networks), Perficient (NASDAQ: PRFT), Vignette Corp (NASDAQ: VIGN/OTXT), Per Se Technologies (acquired by McKesson (NASDAQ: PSTI/NYSE: MCK)), Tipping Point Technologies (acquired by 3Com (NASDAQ: TPTI/COMS/HP)), and BSG Corp.

Steve was named “Entrepreneur of the Year” for BSG Corp (awarded by Ernst &Young), and went on to serve as a national judge for “Entrepreneur of the Year." He also represented the United States as judge and Chairman of World Entrepreneur of the Year.

Steve directly advised the President of the United States for two terms in the White House and co-chaired the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), appointed by President George W. Bush. PCAST, part of the Executive Office of the President, directly informs the president about strategy and policy regarding innovation, technology, and science. He co-chaired and/or worked as a member of individual committees on topics of energy, national nanotechnology, innovation ecosystems, personalized medicine/healthcare IT, education, and others. Steve also served as a judge for the White House Fellows, one of America’s most prestigious programs for leadership and public service.

During his service in the White House, Steve co-founded and co-chaired JUCCCE (Joint US –China Collaboration on Clean Energy), a Shanghai-based NGO and non-profit organization pushing for efficient use of technology and energy in China. As an advocate of the entrepreneur community involvement in public policy, Steve co-founded TechNet Texas and joined the National Executive Committee of TechNet, the leading bi-partisan technology industry-lobbying group and collective brain trust of greater Silicon Valley.

Steve actively speaks on the topics of entrepreneurship, technology, science, public policy, and China, including recent events convened by World Economic Forum –Innovation, Fortune Magazine’s Brainstorm Conference (Keynote), Fortune Global Forum – Paris, GigaOM, MIT Forum: Future of Energy in China (Keynote), Dreamforce, World Entrepreneur of the Year, McKinsey Global Forum, Global Humanitarian Forum – Geneva, AlwaysOn, and more.

Steve co-authored the top selling Chinese book Smart Life, a guide to technology innovation that drives major social changes around the world.

Steve graduated from the University of Texas at Austin School of Business with the highest honors.
